Dr. Charles (Chuck) Daniel has been working for Valador since January 2006 and is currently providing support for NASA’s Constellation development activities. He is the former Chief Engineer for the International Space Station activities at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). His background includes over 35 years of experience working on the Space Shuttle, Space Lab, Space Station (ISS), Skylab, and Saturn Programs. He has worked with systems design, systems test and verification, project management, performance analysis, risk assessment and management activities on both manned and unmanned programs. His design experience includes avionics, structures, and software and propulsion systems.
Prior to working for Valador, Dr Daniel served as a consultant for both NASA and DOD, and has been affiliated with Lockheed, AT&T Solutions, SAIC, Boeing and other aerospace organizations. Prior to that he retired from NASA, where he held various positions of responsibility including the NASA Chair at the Naval Post Graduate School, coordinating the activity between organizations performing research under the Naval Space Command. He was a member of the post Challenger investigation and coordinated the hazard and risk assessment activities for all MSFC elements during the Return to Flight Activity following the Challenger accident. During the post Columbia accident period he served as a member of the Technical Team within the Stafford/Covey Task Force with responsibility for technical oversight of NASA’s Return to Flight activities. Dr. Daniel is currently a member of the Stafford ISS Assessment Task Force.
Dr. Daniel holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and has completed postgraduate work at the University of California, Berkeley and MIT.
