August 22, 2014—Launch of the First Interactive APPEL Catalog and Project Management & Systems Engineering Competency Model

Valador Inc., a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business headquartered in Herndon, VA, is pleased to have been part of a multidisciplinary curriculum and design team that supported NASA’s Academy of Program/Project & Engineering Leadership (APPEL) in the development of their first interactive course catalog as well as their first interactive Project Management & Systems Engineering Competency Model.

The new APPEL Catalog is entirely online and highly interactive. It serves as a one-stop resource for everything NASA’s technical workforce needs to know about APPEL courses, offering practitioners a markedly different way to engage with the Academy’s curriculum. Browsing through courses is easy: participants can search by subject, category, or alphabetically. Each course features a devoted web page that provides a multimedia-rich exploration of course details, including a video introduction and past-participant comments. Registration is simple, too: participants can click to enroll in a course directly from the catalog.

The new APPEL Catalog is designed to work synergistically with the new interactive Project Management & Systems Engineering Competency Model. The Competency Model supports the professional development of NASA’s technical workforce by outlining distinct competency areas for project managers and systems engineers, as well as the APPEL courses that support each competency. Practitioners are encouraged to use the model to review the skills they need to advance their careers. They can then examine the recommended courses and click through to the APPEL Catalog for more information.

The APPEL Catalog and Project Management & Systems Engineering Competency Model launched on APPEL’s website, appel.nasa.gov, on August 18, 2014. Courses are open to NASA project managers and systems engineers only.
