The loss of the Space Shuttle Columbia has resulted in a stand down of the entire Space Shuttle fleet and has impacted the operations and construction of the International Space Station. This unprecedented loss during reentry comes at a critical juncture of on-orbit space operations—the space station is nearing completion and continues to maintain a crew on-orbit. The effective completion of this independent accident investigation will be critical for the future of manned space operations and the completion of the International Space Station.s
