NASA releases Alternate Trajectories, the final report on the study on options for competitive sourcing for the Space Shuttle Program.
Herndon, VA, December 31, 2002 -- The final report of NASA’s Space Shuttle Competitive Sourcing Task Force has been released
(http://www.rand.org/). Valador provided key panel members of the Task Force including the leads for Space Shuttle Operations, Safety, Human Resources, Finance, and Competitive Sourcing Options.
The Task Force was convened in the Spring of 2002 upon the direction of the NASA Administrator, Sean O’Keefe. It comprised renowned experts from within the Shuttle and Manned Spaceflight community as well as other experts in the finance, human resources, insurance, business management and academic communities. The report, unlike its preceding analyses, focuses on the options for competitive sourcing in the context of the President’s Management Agenda, rather than the governance structures such as a G Corporation. The Task Force visited key Space Shuttle Program facilities, met with key program management and contractor management, and was provided with extensive access to NASA databases in support of this work.
The report has been briefed through NASA and is currently under review by Headquarters and program management.
